New job!

Once again, sorry for the lack of updates. Anyways, I will be starting a job in a few weeks at MIM Software here in greater Cleveland. Since the company designs software for medical devices and iPads, I will make time to still participate in freelance work, my band, and making short films. I will keep you all updated! Here is a creepy self portrait during my graduation and some drawings from the week.

Cleveland Poster

I already posted today, but here is a poster I made for beautiful ol' Cleveland. We were given an assignment to kinda/sorta rip off the Heads of State's awesome travel posters. So, here's my final iteration.

"Speck" Assignment

For a recent Illustration assignment, we were assigned to draw from the viewpoint of a tiny dot, or "speck." I chose to do mine on a zipper, and took some liberties with color, pattern, etc. My first draft in pencil looked great, but I butchered it when I decided to do it in acrylic and pastel. It looked awful. Anyways, I redid it digitally and it came out much, much better. Here it is.

Collage-y stuff

My "Community Projects" class had a commission that required some collage-style work which would serve as backgrounds for PDF, Powerpoint and Keynotes for CIA, believe it or not. This of course, gave me an excuse to work on some collage stuff, much like I do in every sketchbook and actually apply it to something. Anyways, here are some of the trials, which you'll likely see recycled in a flyer or some type of upcoming work in the near future. School's been non-stop lately and getting assignments to the level I want them at has been tough with such heavy time constraints in addition to working a part-time job and working on an album with my band. Anyways, here's some of the collage work...

Older work

I never posted these, but I worked on some 1980's themed cards for Illustration last semester. They turned out decently. Each card I did was Illustrated differently to reflect various 80's imagery/artwork. So yeah, here they are.

Some newer work

It's been awhile since I've posted, thanks mostly in part to my broken scanner and lack of a functional camera. Anyways, the Spring Semester at CIA is in full swing and I'm working on 4 simultaneous assignments currently.

For my storyboard and sequencing class, we were instructed to take a Nursery Rhyme and alter it slightly, and then storyboard it. Coming from a television and video background, this is a very fun assignment. I have written a shorthanded script and altered the narrative slightly in order to create a slightly more interesting story than the song's lyrics would suggest. My main parameter, however, is the limit of 20 frames. Therefore, I will either cut scenes or cut shots. I'll possibly even storyboard only a portion of the story, if given permission.

Anyways, here were some quick sketches of Mary and the lamb. Nothing too concrete. There are others, but this should suffice your curiosity for now...

I'm also working on a Julian Casablancas poster (even though I'm not currently sure of the state of his solo endeavors). We are making posters in graphite and light washes with handwritten type and I've got this one all layed out, it just needs some rendering. There are dozens of reference photos featuring me and a microphone in various dramatic stage poses that I hope nobody ever sees.

In addition, there is a Fine Art assignment in which I can do anything I want. Therefore, the project is so open I'm trying to decide if I want to do a new set of woodcuts, a silkscreen (I'm thinking of silkscreening graphite), a collage/painting on a mixed media canvas, and the list goes on. So many choices, so much work, so little time.

(I was messing with a few ink/paint techniques for these quick portraits, so Tiger doesn't really look like Tiger since I had to make up a lot of the lighting. I drew these in pencil at work and colored them days later at home.)
